Wisconsin State Rebate Program
Focus on Energy: Renewable Energy Cash Back Rewards

The following types of applicants are eligible to apply for the rebate program:
  • Residential
  • Commercial
  • Industrial
  • Nonprofit
  • Schools
  • State Government
  • Tribal Government
  • Fed. Government
  • Institutions
  • Local Government

The following table shows the requirements in order to be eligible for the rebate:

Requirements for Eligibility
The rebate will apply to the purchase of any of the following systems:
  • Solar Water Heat
  • Solar Thermal Process Heat
  • Photovoltaics (PV)
  • Solar Pool Heating
  • Non-Residential Wood-Burning Systems
  • Biomass
  • Wind

The rebate levels are mapped out below:

Amount: Varies by the type of technology and the type of project. $500 bonus available for participants of the Wisconsin Energy Star Homes/Home Performance Program.
Maximum Incentive: Varies by technology.
Eligible System Sizes:
  • Wind: 20 Kilowatt max.
  • Photovoltaics: 1/2 Kilowatt up to 50 Kilowatts.
  • Solar Hot Water and Biomass Combustion: 5k therms per year max.

All systems require a 2 year warranty for installation and a 1 year warranty for equipment. Other requirements vary by technology, and can be found here, along with more information about this program.

Incentive Details for this Program:
Wind Energy Systems:
  • The incentive is calculated on the total rated capacity, cost, and expected production of electricity, annually.
  • 20 kilowatts or less.
  • Maximum incentive:
    $35,000.00 or 25 of cost for residential or commercial
    35% of costs for non-profits and gov't.
  • Repairs also eligible, with limitation.

Solar Hot Water Systems:

  • Up to 250 therms:
    $20.00 per therm, max. is the lower of 25% of cost or $2500
  • 250-2500 therms:
    $10.00 per therm, max. is the lower of 15% of cost or $25,000
  • 2500-5000 therms:
    $8.00 per therm, max. is the lower of 25% of cost or $40,000
  • Non-Profits, Government:
    Up to $5.00 additional per therm, max. is the lower of 35% cost or $65k
  • Repairs are eligible, with limitations.

Photovoltaic Systems:

  • Up to 20 kilowatts:
    $1.50 per annual kilowatt hour for residential/commercial.
    Max is the lower of $35,000 or 25% of cost.

    $2.00 per annual kilowatt hour for non profit/government.
    Max is the lower of $45,000 or 35% of cost.
     
  • Larger than 20 kilowatts:
    $1.00 per annual kilowatt hour for residential/commercial.
    Max is the lower of $50,000 or 25% of cost.

    $1.50 per annual kilowatt hour for non profit/government.
    Max is the lower of $75,000 or 35% of cost.
     
 
All equipment that is the subject of a rebate request will be inspected to ensure the requirements on this page are met.
