Solar Energy Montana State Incentives

Montana Residential Alt. Energy System Tax Credit
The following types of equipment can qualify for a 100% sales tax refund after approval:
  • Passive Solar Space Heat
  • Fuel Cells using Renewable Fuels
  • Solar Water Heat
  • Small Hydroelectric
  • Solar Space Heat
  • Low-Emission Wood Stoves
  • Photovoltaics (PV)
  • Geothermal Heat Pumps
  • Wind
  • Biomass

Summary:

Hydroelectric systems producing greater than 1MW do not qualify.

You can receive a 100% tax rebate on your qualified system, up to $500. Your excess credit can be carried forward for up to four years.

Electric Water Heaters: $1 to $2 per tank gal.
Heat Pumps: Electric: $600 max.
Gas: $1500 max. single family, $2500 multi-family home.
Demand Controller: Up to $20
Electric Resistance Heat Systems: $500 max.
